I’m the founder and tutor at Wiser By Nature, and I’m on a mission to make maths something that every child can enjoy and feel confident doing.
Growing up, I wasn’t a fan of maths at all. But after years of hard work and a real shift in how I looked at the subject, I became a qualified maths specialist teacher.
Now, I’m living proof that Everyone Can Do Maths!
There isn't one "right" way to learn maths
Over the years, I've worked with children and young people with a wide range of learning needs, abilities and experiences.
I have over 10 years' experience supporting neurodivergent learners, including children with autism, ADHD, dyslexia and dyscalculia.
I've seen first-hand how much difference it can make when a child feels understood rather than judged.
So I don't believe in taking a one-size-fits-all approach.
Instead, I get to know the child in front of me: how they think, what interests them, where they get stuck, what gives them confidence and what makes them switch off.
Then I adapt the way I teach accordingly.
My aim is not simply to teach maths.
It's to help a child feel safe enough to ask questions, confident enough to have a go, and proud enough to recognise their own progress.
Why Wiser By Nature?
I created Wiser By Nature because I wanted to offer something more personal than traditional tuition.
For me, tutoring isn't about rushing through a syllabus or filling a child's head with procedures.
It's about understanding why something isn't making sense and finding a way forward.
It's about building a relationship where a child feels comfortable saying:
"I don't understand."
And knowing that the response will be:
"That's absolutely fine. Let's work it out together."
My philosophy:
Everyone can do maths.
They just don't all learn it in the same way.
That's the belief at the heart of Wiser By Nature.
Whether your child needs help catching up, is preparing for exams, has lost confidence, or simply needs someone to explain things differently, my aim is always the same:
to help them understand maths, believe in themselves and realise what they're capable of.
I'm now based in Hove and work with families across Hove and Brighton, as well as offering online tuition.
I work with children from primary age through to GCSE and beyond, tailoring sessions to their individual needs and goals.
Alongside 1:1 tutoring, Wiser By Nature also offers workshops designed to help children and parents experience maths in a different way.
